Doctors Across Pipeline
CEO Message on Doctors’ Day

To all of the physicians with whom we work across the Pipeline Health system, Happy Doctors’ Day!

In the United States, we observe National Doctors’ Day each year as a special day to recognize the service of our physicians. The idea came from Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond. The date chosen was the anniversary of the first use of general anesthesia in surgery.  On March 30, 1842, in Jefferson, Georgia, Dr. Crawford Long used ether to anesthetize a patient, James Venable, and painlessly excised a tumor from his neck.

The use of ether was arguably one of the most significant advances in the history of medicine.

Today, we make note of such great advances made by physicians to enhance patient care. At the same time, we recognize the great advances made by physicians each day, with each patient whom they see.

At our Pipeline Health hospitals, our staff members work alongside physicians who share a special dedication to serving diverse populations of patients, many of whom represent underserved communities. Some of our physician colleagues are relatively new to our hospitals, and we thank them for joining our team. Other physicians have practiced medicine at our hospitals for decades, offering inspiration to all of us.

We value each one of you. We value your commitment to delivering safe, quality care to every patient. We value your commitment to compassion – for our patients and their family members.

Thank you for the work you do each day at our hospitals, caring for the patients we are privileged to serve.
